About Us
A Bit about 5th Carlton....

5th Carlton Scout Group is located at St. John the Baptist Church on Oakdale Road in Carlton, close to the City boundary of Nottingham, UK. We provide Scouting for children of all faiths, aged between 6yrs -14yrs, living mainly in the Carlton and Bakersfield area. At 14 years, Scouts can progress to one of the local Explorer Scout Units; Scouts wanting to move up to this Section will be put in contact by the Scout Leaders.
Sections don't meet during the School Holiday's. The Group follows the Nottinghamshire County Council school holiday pattern (5 weeks summer holidays, and 2 weeks for October Half Term). Full dates are available on our online calendar.
We are a Church sponsored Group, located in Central Notts Scout District, within the County of Nottinghamshire. We were first registered with The Scout Association on the 3rd April 1956. Since that date, the Group has enjoyed much success over the years, full details about our history is available on our History page. In 2016, 5th Carlton celebrated its 60th Anniversary with numerous events taking place throughout the year.

Our Committees

Within the Scout Group, there are a number of Adults who all volunteer their free time to provide skills to our young people. The Group is managed by a Group Scout Leader (GSL), who is supported by an Executive Committee comprising Warranted Leaders, Parent Representatives, Officials and the Fundraising Committee Chairman; the Committee meets bi-monthly to consider the Group’s financial and administrative matters and to agree policy decisions.
The Group Council meets at least once a year, in the form of an Annual General Meeting. The Council consists of all Adult Members, as well as the young people's parents. Usually on the same evening we also hold the Groups Annual Awards Evening.
The Group also has a Fundraising and Social Committee. This committee meets regularly to consider and manage activities and events which raise money to enable us to provide quality Scouting whilst, at the same time, keeping down the cost of subscriptions. Full details for our Fundraising and Social committee, and any upcoming events can be found by on our Fundraising and Social page.

Church Parades

We hold 3 Church Parades each year, which take place on the second Sunday in April, October and November. Church Parades in April and November, sees the Group march along Oakdale Road, to St John's Church along side our very own marching Band.
We encourage all our members to attend these services, no matter what their religion, as it is way of supporting the Church who, as our sponsor, provide us with a home and facilities. Families are very welcome to come along as well; refreshments are available after the service and parents will have an opportunity to chat to Leaders about their child’s progress.
In addition to these Church Parades, members are also welcome to attend St John's Family Services, which take place on the Second Sunday of each month.
