We are both proud and delighted to announce that our new DC is none other than our very own Group Scout Leader, Daniel Bolstridge!
He will be officially invested, for a period of 3 years, on Saturday, 27th April in Southwell Minster as part of the St George's Day celebrations. It would be neither practical nor possible for Daniel to carry out two very demanding roles and so Steve Baker, our current Treasurer but former GSL, has kindly offered to step in and act as a caretaker GSL during Daniel's term of office as District Commissioner. This would, however, mean that the Group would be without a Treasurer as, under Scout Policy, Organisation and Rules, Steve is precluded from undertaking both of these roles. In view of this we are appealing for someone out there, be it parent, relative, or friend, to act as our Treasurer for a period, or part period, of the time in question. Help would be given to anyone willing to help us out during this period. Please give this matter some thought and, if you would like further information to help you make your mind up, then please do not hesitate to contact Steve Baker whose contact details are [email protected] or 07788 406078. 5th Carlton has always been considered, in wider circles, to be a strong Group, with an excellent team of dedicated Leaders. We have always operated with an ethos of teamwork; there are no egos here; our GSLs over the years have not ruled, but carefully managed, co-ordinated and nurtured their team. Those of us that remember Daniel as a quiet and timid Beaver Scout are proud and delighted to see him develop into what he is now – kind and thoughtful, intelligent, knowledgeable, always doing his best, able to lead, etc. These attributes make him an excellent choice for DC. Daniel’s appointment and that of Matt Rooney as our last County Commissioner and Sam Farnsworth as the current District Youth Commissioner speaks volumes about Scouting at 5th Carlton. Who knows where the next Chief Scout might come from?! |
